Romans 12:1&2 from The Message
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
A way to remember God’s presence in our lives is to ask questions about our day in a way that invites us to ponder where God has been with us. Where did God show up? Where was Jesus among us? An easy way to foster this kind of conversation is to create a deck of plain index cards with a question on each. Family members take turns picking a card at random and answering the question on it, such as the following: •I felt really myself when… •I felt strong when… •Something I think made God sad was… •I felt tired and drained when… •Something that happened that I’m really grateful for is… •Something beautiful was… •I felt really alive when… •Something I think made God happy was… •I felt at peace when… •I felt love, or loving, when… •I felt connected to someone else when… •I felt close to God when… Presbyterians Today, Sept. 2007 I felt ____________________________________________ Something I think _________________________________
